Internship Opportunities
We are currently set up to
host two long-term interns who are serious about learning to farm
sustainably and biodynamically. Here are some details about our
program:

Experience
You do not need farm experience to intern on our farm, but the ability to learn quickly and be motivated.
Interns will learn how to run a farm from seed to overall farm management. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn a lot about cooking, canning, food preservation, saving seed, bee keeping, poultry, pigs, cows, planting, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, soil, compost, biodynamic agriculture, marketing, community development, food security, and on and on.
Our goal is to say goodbye to you at the end of the season with the confidence that you could grow food for yourself, for 100+ other people, and with the ability to start your own farm.
Work
Farming is hard work and is very demanding physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is also long work and there is always something that needs to be done. We expect interns to have a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and the ability to communicate well.
Some days we work all afternoon and put headlamps on when it gets too dark to see! Such a case is not typical, but it does happen and it's important that you can still have fun under less-than-ideal conditions. Work expectations also include sharing in meal preparation and clean up.
Interns are expected to work at least 5 days a week and adopt our day-to-day schedule, which is structured around cultivation, harvesting, farmers markets, and CSA pick ups. Your life, along with the food you grow and eat, will become directly in touch with the seasons, which is...cool!
Definition of "long-term stay"
We prefer that you stay at least three months if you are serious about interning. That said, we do need a two-week "trial" period to make sure that we can all work well together. If you fit in well here, which is almost always the case, then you are welcome to stay for the entire season (about March-November).
If you cannot stay for the entire season, we can usually host another shorter-term intern during the busiest months, June-September.
Pay
This is only our second season as an established farm and we are currently unable to pay interns with money. Instead, you will receive a place to live, the freshest food imaginable, lots of good company, and most importantly, experience.
Trust me, we've spent our share of time working on farms for free. It's how you learn how to farm. That said, we do occasionally make enough money to give a stipend and also will give you restaurant orders to fill if you want.
Biodynamic Agriculture
We practice a method of agriculture developed by Rudolph Steiner called Biodynamics. We learned to farm biodynamically and believe it has a powerful effect on the quality of the soil, our farm, and the food we grow. You are expected to have some basic understanding of the biodynamic method, although it will probably seem very "out there" at first, as it did to us at first. You do not need to believe the method, but rather respect that it is how we farm and is a way to grow high quality food while healing the earth.
Here is one of the more "palatable" explanations of the method
Other Details
We're young farmers. Most people who work on this farm are between the ages of 20-30. We work hard, eat great food, and have a good time while working. If you are interested in learning how to grow food and you respect the farm, our neighbors, and customers, you will do fine here.
