Here are some of the benefits of joining our CSA:
- Members gain the security of knowing exactly where
their food is coming from, exactly who grew it, and that it is grown
sustainably, free of chemical pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides,
herbicides, or other harmful inputs.
- You receive the freshest food
available, with the added vitamins, nutrients, and taste that goes with
it. We harvest for the CSA just hours before you pick up your food.
- You will experience new vegetables
and new ways of cooking, as you receive heirloom produce and many items
you cannot find in the grocery store.
- You form a personal relationship
with us, your farmers! We believe it is important to know who is eating
our food, and have formed countless friendships as a result!
- You may find that your children are more excited to eat fresh vegetables
grown on "their farm".
- You are welcome to come to the farm with friends and family to work, play, picnic, or just see what's growing!
- You are supporting sustainable agriculture, promoting food security in Nashville, and helping to heal our food system.
Risk and other Considerations
Like any investment, there is some risk
involved. Although we do not plan on it, several variables in farming
can contribute to a smaller harvest. These variables include cold
weather, hot weather, too much rain, too little rain, insects, disease,
cows, groundhogs, rabbits, dogs, crows, children, wind, and illness to
name just a few. One thing we do not put on that list is laziness or neglect, and we
will do everything in our power to bring you good harvests of super-fresh, tasty food each week.
The CSA program may not be a good fit for you if:
- You are uncomfortable about the risk involved
- You plan on going out of town for an extended portion of the season (although we provide a few options)
- You do not enjoy cooking or trying new foods
